What kind of technology or do you have any ideas of anything you think will exist in the future?

If so, what can conflict it?

Answer
No one can no for sure. You we can make all kinds of predictions but we will never hit the bull's eye. Did people in the 1800's or before predict airplanes? Did people also predict that computers and the internet would have such a huge influence in our life? Did people ever expect such technology as the TV and telephone and the drastic impact it would have on our lifestyles? '

No one expected these technologies to arise and have such a large impact.

Predictions about the future are based on what we have now, so its hard to know for sure what it will bring us.

Some ideas:
-Computers will control most things, and robots will become more common
-Space travel will be cheaper and more frequent
-New forms of leisure and entertainment we havent dreamed of yet

I need to know a detailed description of the difference between information systems and information technology. Which one of these will fit me best, I would like to be a computer technician/ Network administrator. I am more like a technical person which mean I like to repair computer, install program on computer, clean them, etc...

Answer
Information Systems : is a large umbrella referring to systems designed to create, store, manipulate, or disseminate information. An example of an information system is a pencil and a piece of paper. The two objects themselves are just tools, but together they create a system for writing (information). The term Information systems have been around a lot longer than the computer, or the term information technology. These days the two are sometimes thought to be synonymous, but that, in most cases is a misconception.

Information Technology : falls under the information system's umbrella, but has nothing to do with systems per say. IT deals with the technology involved in the systems themselves, e.g. An information system like wiki.answers.com contains many information technologies. Servers, server operating systems, web-server software (IIS, Apache, et al), and code written for the web-server software (PHP, C#, VB, PERL, Ruby, et al). Even your computer and browser makes up part of this information system. Like the pencil and paper example, each one of the mentioned parts of this information system in itself is an information technology.

I want to apply for a major in a university. From the list of programs they offer, I saw only Information Engineering. I want to know if it is the same as Information Technology. Please I will also like to know the subjects involves in those two major and the kind of work/career they perform. Thank you.

Answer
No! absolutely not!

Information technology would train you to be a proficient secretary, PA or librarian ( it encompasses learning to write essays, learning how to use Microsoft word and excel etc, and learning about the power of information ) . Information engineering is more like communications engineering. You would learn how to become a technician for a telecommunications company or the likes. you learn about transmitters and transistors, ( it would encompass a broad range of things from physics, and engineering to hands on mechanical training. )

What are the differences between a Bachelor of Science in computer science degree and a Bachelor of Arts in information technology degree in terms of what you are taught, what kind of jobs you can get, and how much money you could make on average?
How do you know the school you go to is accredited to teach computer science and information technology?

Answer
Computer science is much more mathematically based, and is much more technical. You will be expected to know how software works and about grass root programming such as assembler or database normalization to an advanced level.

Information technology teaches you how to use computer software to perform various tasks.

CS is for people who want to be programmers, IT is for people who want to be users or to work in non programing areas of the industry.

I find it kind of sad that " technology" has become synonymous with luxury, materialistic, unnecessary, goods, and not also associated with advancements in fields that are necessary for our health and well being. You're far more likely to hear about an advancement in tv watching than you are to hear of one in cancer prevention, diagnostics, etc. But why? Why does there seem to be such a stagnancy in medical technology a well as almost a neglect in it? Is it because the healthy public doesn't care one ay or the other? There is no funding for it? It's technology that lacks entertainment and thus is pointless? What exactly is missing in society that more attention isn't paid towards it. Imagine if society put as much attention toward advances in cancer treatment and prevention as they do towards cell phones. We probably would have had a cure a decade ago.

Answer

~According to whom, exactly? Your observations?

You're far more likely to hear about an advancement in tv watching than you are to hear of one in cancer prevention, diagnostics, etc

~Not true. Just yesterday, one of the big stories on the news was the little girl in Mississippi who has been cured of HIV.
But, news caters to what holds a reader's/viewer's attention. Read better magazines and websites and you'll find all kinds of info in advances in medicine.

Why does there seem to be such a stagnancy in medical technology a well as almost a neglect in it?

~ Again, not true. Lol, not even close. Companies spend hundreds of billions, if not trillions, of dollars trying to find the next big drug or device. In the last few years, the best ankle replacement device came on the market after millions and millions of dollars in testing. Old ones sucked and the new ones are life changing.

Imagine if society put as much attention toward advances in cancer treatment and prevention as they do towards cell phones.

~ We put more money towards penis pills and national defense, BY FAR, than we do towards cancer research.

We probably would have had a cure a decade ago.

~ I wouldn't go that far, but remember, we HAVE come up with a cancer vaccination. Gardisil, the HPV vaccination, prevents certain types of cervical cancer.

I'm not going to say that we should sacrifice TVs for cancer cures. We can't even sacrifice 'gun rights' for the lives of children. I will say that more focus needs to be on prevention of things like cancer - via diet and exercise. Stronger education, stronger reprecussions, stronger aversions to get people away from "fries for $1". Tax the snot out of meat, cheap calorie dense fast food, and cheap processed crap and teach people a REAL food pyramid, not one that requires a chunk of beef, a glass of milk, and a potato for each meal.

I'm currently going to school to get my associates degree in information technology and I have to make a selection of what field in information technology I want to specialize in.The options are: business application professional, cloud computing, information technology, Mobile Computing development, networking, programing, system support technician, web development and, website management.Id like to know witch would be a wise selection?I know it's tough to get a job with today's economy and I don't want to get a degree that's gonna be useless when I finish.Any advise is welcomed.

Answer
When we clear our studies in information technology, after then number of ways are open in front of us to chose such as business application professional, cloud computing, information technology, Mobile Computing development, networking, programing, system support technician, web development and website management. All fields are better to get success in Information technology. Just you need to chose that field which is most interesting for you. Try to create an aim in the mind and reach onwards.
Me and my friend ( Mr. Henry ) both are cloud computing service providers in Australia. According to 2012, Our company is ranking on 55th position in the top 100 CSP's. When we started our career in this field, we didn't know anything about cloud computing. At that time, we read plenty of books about it and also got practical knowledge. After then we worked in a famous CSP's company named Divest-it ( http://www.divestit.com/ ) as a trainee. We spent around two years in that company and learnt lots of interesting things such as data security, Performance, maintenance etc. And now we are millionaire, just because of hard-work and patience.

My main goal was to major in Information Technology but from what I've heard and my counselor told me, I decided to settle for Information Systems Technology because it is a AS degree and does not involve as much Physics and Calculus. For those that plan on majoring in IT or already are, can you give me the expected yearly wage and basic difference in career fields?

Answer
Information Systems is a large umbrella referring to systems designed to create, store, manipulate, or disseminate information. Example of an information system is a pencil and a piece of paper. The two objects themselves are just tools, but together they create a system for writing (information). The term Information systems has been around a lot longer than the computer, or the term information technology. These days the two are sometimes thought to be synonymous, but that, in most cases is a misconception.

Information technology falls under the information systems umbrella, but has nothing to do with systems per say. Even your computer and browser make up part of this information system. Like the pencil and paper example, each one of the mentioned parts of this information system in itself is an information technology.

That being said, most people in the profession no longer make a distinction. Moreover, companies call their IS/IT department a wide range of titles based on more on culture and tradition than anything else.

What are some good fields in Information Technology ?

Ali

I am currently a junior in High School. I am interested in information technology but the field is too vast for me to pick from. I heard that software engineering is a good field to get into. What are some steps to becoming a software engineer ?

Answer
To give you the background – There are a number of viable IT majors. Just figure out what you would like to do. These are all good. You need a 4 year degree. If all you have time for is a 2 year degree then that is ok for starters but you will still need to complete years 3&4. Don't get a certificate type degree or a Devry or ITT Tech degree- not recognized by many employers and credits may not transfer in the future. There are several main Computer majors and their associated career categories and you need to know these just to get the lay of the land. These degree titles are often found in Associates, Bachelors and Masters degree programs. Generally most IT employers are looking for a 4 year Bachelors degree in an IT related major as a minimum requirement. For working people some of these majors are offered by schools in night classes and we are beginning to see online or hybrid online/classroom options available. Depending on the school, a Bachelors degree in an IT field may be a BA or a BS. There does not seem to be any problems for employers with a BA or BS as long as it is a bachelors degree. If you already have a degree in another major, if you have an Associates degree or if you have a bunch or college credits and no degree you can usually find a degree completion program that will allow you to take 14-16 months of classes and graduate with a Bachelors in a computer related major.
Now some of the titles colleges use may consist of different course curriculums. As an example one school may have more programming classes in the same major while another school has fewer. Schools may call their general IT program Computer Information Technology, Computer Information Systems or Computer Information Science. To really tell what the major is about you should look at the courses that a particular school offers in that major. Another point of confusion is job titles you will see. For example, I am called a Computer Systems Engineer but I don't do anything associated with Computer Engineering. One job I had I was Systems Programmer but I did not do any programming. So the titles for majors and for jobs in IT can be very confusing. Sometimes I will hear someone say they want to pursue Computer Science or Computer Engineering and once they find out what it involves they realize that is not what they want to do. If this is old info, that you already know, apologies. Here are the majors and some associated jobs:

Computer Science (CS) - A technical degree which usually has a Programming emphasis - people with this major usually are developing application software, web development, embedded code and robotics. Sometimes depending on the college the degree may cover some more general topics as listed under CIS below. CS is a difficult major and may include a number of advanced math courses. Many CS students find themselves not enjoying programming, not being gifted at it or not having the math and logic skills to be good at programming and they will switch out into CIS. CS majors that are able to graduate can also qualify for jobs listed below under CIS.

Computer Information Systems (CIS) - This may also be called a variety of other names like Information Technology (IT), Information Systems (IS), etc. This is a general technical degree and is the degree that I have. Holders of these degree work in a variety of technical jobs like these:
Computer Technician, Service Center Coordinator, Help Desk Staff, Storage Administrator, Network Administrator, Systems Administrator, Systems Engineer, Enterprise Administrator, Active Directory Administrator, Exchange and Messaging Administrator, Backup Administrator, Disaster Recovery Specialist, Database Administrator, Computing Security Specialist, Corporate IT Acquisition Specialist and Data Center Administrator, just to name a few.

Computer Engineering - This is a technical engineering and design degree. These degree holders get jobs related to designing and manufacturing computer related hardware. Obviously when you think of hardware you think of laptops and PCs but this might be all kinds of computer devices like tablets, processors, memory, storage, networking equipment and components of computers.

Management Information Systems (MIS) - This is a business degree that prepares non-technically trained people to manage projects, budgets and people. Traditionally, senior IT technical pros would eventually be promoted into management positions after years of technical work. The good news is they understood technical challenges their people were working with but the bad news was that some were great tech people but poor people managers. I have had both types of these managers and the new trend is definitely towards these non-technical managers
Hope this helps.
Best Wishes!

How could future technology have helped prevent what happened in haiti. What technology is being developed to prevent similar disasters.

Answer
Modern day technology could have saved Haiti. The reason they suffered such terrible losses was because their buildings were poorly constructed. They were not ready.

I'm sure that any new buildings in Haiti will be constructed to withstand future earthquakes.
