what is information technology?

Mia 'theam

what does it mean to apply information technology appropiately?

Answer
Information technology is pretty much anything having to do with computers, databases, and the Internet.

If you're applying information technology appropriately, it means you're doing your homework in terms of buying computers, software packages, network systems, database management software and hardware, and Internet access -- you don't want to buy too many computers, or spend extra money on computer features you don't need (why get high-end graphics cards in your computers if they're being used for your garden-variety business), and you don't want to invest in software packages you don't need either. For networks, you need a network system that isn't too big but isn't too small either -- and you may want to think about company growth when you set up your network.

Applying information technology appropriately also means you're using the tools at your disposal as effectively as possible to help run your business. This may involve training people on how to use certain programs/applications, or even developing your own software/systems to do whatever you need to do.

What is Information Technology?

Bridgette

I am applying for Tennessee Governor's School for Informational Technology Leadership. I am more interested in the Business Leadership aspect, but for my application it is asking ways information technology has helped businesses operate more effectively and asks to give concrete examples.

If you could please give me a summary of what Information technology is, and some examples of the way it has helped I will derive my own answers.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Information technology, as defined by the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA), is "the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware." Encompassing the computer and information systems industries, information technology is the capability to electronically input, process, store, output, transmit, and receive data and information, including text, graphics, sound, and video, as well as the ability to control machines of all kinds electronically.

Information technology is comprised of computers, networks, satellite communications, robotics, videotext, cable television, electronic mail ("e-mail"), electronic games, and automated office equipment. The information industry consists of all computer, communications, and electronics-related organizations, including hardware, software, and services. Completing tasks using information technology results in rapid processing and information mobility, as well as improved reliability and integrity of processed information.

Similarities of Technology and Science?

Differnces of Technology and Science?

Answer
Technology is a product of science. It helps enhance the daily lifestyle of humanity, as it continuously affords commodities to us. It is also helpful in helping advance science. It is used in everything we have in the world. From agricultural practices to computers, technology is the knowledge that we have accumulated to enhance these or make these practices or products.

Science are the facts that surround the world, usually explained with mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. Science is used to investigate what is not yet known to better enhance humanity. Science investigations lead to new technologies and innovations that help solve some of the world's critical problems.

Similiarities: Without science there is no technology as science makes technology

Differences: Science is an inevitable truth. Technology is the application of these facts.

Answer
Information technology (IT), as defined by the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA), is "the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware." IT deals with the use of electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit and retrieve information, securely.

Recently it has become popular[citation needed] to broaden the term to explicitly include the field of electronic communication so that people tend to use the abbreviation ICT (Information and Communications Technology), it is common for this to be referred to as IT & T in the Australasia region, standing for Information Technology and Telecommunications.

Today, the term information technology has ballooned to encompass many aspects of computing and technology, and the term is more recognizable than ever before. The information technology umbrella can be quite large, covering many fields. IT professionals perform a variety of duties that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases. A few of the duties that IT professionals perform may include data management, networking, engineering computer hardware, database and software design, as well as the management and administration of entire systems.
